When I first had the idea to start this blog I remember saying to my sister, ‘I don’t ever want to sound preachy’.  I didn’t want people to read this and feel like I was judging them for eating meat.  After all, I was that meat eater for the first 30 something years of my life.  I started this blog because I wanted to possibly be a resource and to share my journey.

I stopped eating meat for a couple of reasons.  I believe that a plant-based diet is the healthiest choice I can make for my family and me.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death and animal protein is the culprit.  For those worried about getting enough protein, worry no more!  Most people consuming the Standard American Diet (aka, SAD) are consuming protein in large amounts and storing the excess as fat.  Eating a plant-based diet I am still able to get in all of my protein through plant based foods.  Green veggies, beans and nuts are great sources of protein!

Aside from feeling healthier, it saddened me to see how the food industry brutally treats these living creatures.  To get a taste of exactly how these animals are treated before they end up on your plate, check out Earthlings.  This documentary gives a horrendously gruesome look into how humans treat our fellow earthlings, especially for food.  If you can make it through the trailer (I covered my eyes several times) I suggest taking the hour and a half to watch the film and make the connection.  There are some scenes that are difficult to watch but it is worth the effort.  Shouldn’t we all know where our food comes from?

I hope you’ll watch and share the video.  Maybe one day we can live in a world that shows more compassion for our fellow earthlings.
